What you need to turn lemons into something good

Well it’s that time of year again. Let the yelling, quarreling and name calling begin. No, I’m not talking about the election or politics. I’m talking about that age old debate – is ‘Die Hard’ a Christmas movie? Now there are those who swear it is because it’s set at Christmas time, there’s that great scene with the tree and it’s got the right music. Others are just as passionate that it’s not because of all the violence. Oddly enough, I’ve never once heard anyone arguing if it’s a good movie or not. Shouldn’t that be part of the discussion somehow? But so often in all out screaming matches, what’s most important gets lost in the noise. Anyway, there I was the other day, having a fun chat on Zoom with a group of friends. When one makes the mistake of asking if any of us have started to watch Christmas flicks yet. And someone pipes up they’ve already watched ‘Die Hard’ several times. Well, after about 10 minutes of the craziness I was wondering if I should leave the room. Which, in this wonderful world of online connections would’ve been so easy. Plus, later I could’ve said, oops, my internet flaked on me. Sorry. But instead, I sat back and listened to the nutty conversation. One I’ve heard so many times over the years, yet was one of the more normal thing to happen to me lately. Yup, let me enjoy this bit of life from before everything went sideways. Don’t get me wrong. I’m thankful to have been given this year, one which wasn’t as I or anyone planned. However, contrary to popular opinion, when life hands you lemons you can’t make lemonade. Because life never hands you the water and the sugar as well. Although, someone recently told me if you have a lot of lemons you can make a lot of friends because you can always give them away. Cool. So as we wrap up this year, think of what you can do for others. How you can react with kindness. How you can not argue about the stupid things. And how you can take the lemon this year has turned out to be and make some good come out of it.
